Pregnant single mother with a nine year old daughter. The mother was a heroine addict, after many years in different rehabs she is now in good recovery. She needs to move on with her life and reintegrate into the community. She was living in a dingy, cold, 1 bed flat on a dangerous estate.
What we did – we paid £1,500 for a deposit on a new flat, and some furniture. They are now living in the community and her daughter is exceling in one of the local Jewish schools.
Family with 2 children, mum is going through a breakdown due to the stress caused by the inability to provide for them. The husband has learning difficulties, and does not work as he is needed to be on hand for the the kids. The house has broken windows and in 2 rooms there are electric radiators. The house was a tip and the kids are now on the child protection register because of neglect.
What we did – we paid for some critical repairs, home help 2 mornings a week, 20 sessions of counceling for the mother £2,000. We also helped her husband into a job. The family is now shining
Single Mother, 45 years old, with 4 children. The Father died last year from cancer and there were complications with their benefit entitlement. The eldest son was removed into foster care until they could find a 2 bedroom flat.
What we did – We found and paid for her to move into a 2 bed flat. we got a lawyer to fight for the return of the son to the family and to reinstate the benefits £2,500
Family with 3 kids, have not been on a holiday for over 10 years. Father gets minimum wage in a manual job, mother who was also working part time was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer and given six months to live.
What we did – Paid for a family holiday £400
19 year old single mother (grown up with abuse and neglect) with 2 year old daughter. She has been through some rough times, she has done the 'drugs, sex and rock n roll', now she is getting her life together but could not make ends meet on benefits.
What we did – £400 loan to get her on her feet, plus TV, bedding and kitchen utensils
Single mother and teenage daughter escaped her abusive husband with nothing.
What we did - provided clothes, furniture and deposit for new flat total £1,100.
Family of 6, wife ran off with a painter and falsely claimed the benefits and tax credits leaving father homeless, penniless with 4 kids.
What we did – paid 1st month rent and deposit, washer, dryer, fridge full of food and home help twice a week totaling £1,600
Family of 4 living in 2 bed flat for 5 years. He has not had work for 2 years; she works as cleaner, home help. They have fallen behind on their rent by £20 a week landlord tried to evict them.
What we did – paid the landlord £500 to rescind the eviction notice, and got the father a job
Single Mother and 2 daughters, suffers from schizophrenia. She spends 15% of her time in hospital in the psychiatric ward. When she is well, her fortnightly medication makes her very tired for a few days. Her landlord has pity continuing to let her owe hundreds of pounds. She is still short £25 per week.
What we did – paid £750 to reinstate the gas/electric, paid her loan shark, got her new clothes and upped her disability claim.
The Crisis Emergency Fund needs £100,000+ per year.
We also need volunteers to liaise and support the people we help.
Also to assess the problems and lend a listening and compassionate ear.
